My journey with EBAT all started through my daughter Eleanor about 3 years ago. Nino and Bally visited her school and offered Eleanor a free summer programme and from that point our lives changed. Eleanor enjoyed the programme so much and she displayed a real talent for tennis that we continued her attendance and progressed her into training 6 days a week. I have always admired the academy, the lessons and discipline it provides and the dedication of all involved.
The academy had grown in number and so Bally asked the parents if anyone was able to assist on court with feeding some balls to the kids. As I have played a bit of tennis myself and I was there watching my daughter train anyway, I offered to help. Gradually this increased to more and more hours each week, I was enjoying helping and I was learning so much from Jamie Friend and the other coaches on court. I was fortunate enough for Jamie and Nino to offer to put me through my level 1 coaching course which helped me to develop my skills I was then able to give up my full-time job to focus on coaching and the academy which really was a dream come true.
It was whilst assisting coaching that we noticed all the younger siblings of the tennis players waiting whilst they trained. We saw an opportunity to get them involved and I was tasked with running EBATs mini club for children aged 3-5. This has grown rapidly over the last 12 months, we now have 40 kids attending across four different sessions, I will continue to help the academy grow any way that I can.
With the continued support of Nino, Jamie and Matthew Watson I hope to progress my career with EBAT even further. Working with EBAT has presented Eleanor and I with opportunities that we would not normally get, and we are all proud to be part of the EBAT family.
