Lewis Hind – A day as an Aegon Championship Mascot
A few weeks ago Lewis was given the opportunity to represent Elena & her Academy at the Aegon Championship at Queens as a finals mascot. We have been counting down the days for the championship and began watching eagerly hoping for Andy Murray to make it to the final.
On Sunday morning we were woken-up early by a very excited Lewis who was already thinking of getting to Queens and hoping that Andy Murray would win the semi-final so that he would have a chance to be his mascot.
After a good journey into London we took our seats for the semi’s match and watched as Andy played fantastic tennis to win his place in the final. Time for a break and snack, we headed out to the food courts, where we bumped in to EBAT Supporter & fundraiser, Zainab, who spotted Lewis amongst the crowd by his EBAT sweatshirt.
We met up with the Aegon contact who brought us to the hospitality lounge where we met the other mascot and his family and were treated to drinks and snacks. Time for the first autograph of the day as we spotted Annabel Croft passing through.
They tossed a coin to see which of the boys would be mascot for Andy, to Lewis’s delight he won! Things moved quickly from there as Lewis got changed into his Aegon kit and was taken away to the players lounge ready for the walk on to the court.
We were so proud as we watched him walk onto the court alongside Andy with his head held high and a huge smile, on his face, he was loving every minute of it!
It was a great final with Andy showing no effects from playing earlier in the day to dominate the match and win in two sets. The speed and accuracy of the shots were amazing and certainly more impressive in real life than it looks on the TV.
After the main match we stayed behind to watch the doubles final which was won by the French pair Mahut and Herbert. After the match we had some time to go back to the Aegon Hospitality area where the doubles winners came in for a short interview and then posed for a photo with Lewis and Chloe holding their trophy.
What a fantastic day, one Lewis will never forget. Huge thank you to EBAT for giving Lewis this opportunity.
