Ride for a Roof

Ride for a Roof

Three men, six wheels, 350 miles and a whole lot of lycra!

The Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis (EBAT) and Marie Curie Cancer care announce the launch of their charity cycle ride, ‘Ride for a Roof’ to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care charity and EBAT. With the money raised the academy wish to install a ‘bubble’ roof over three tennis courts at Ipswich School, the home of the academy where the children train. The ride will start on 11th July 2015 at the academy in Ipswich where our three cyclists will embark on a gruelling 350 mile journey. Over three days our cycling heroes, Steve Harding, Ben Haining and Jamie Friend will be peddling their way to some of British tennis’s most prestigious venues. Starting in Ipswich the men will be heading to The Queens Club in London for their first ice bath and a good night’s rest! Before jumping back in the saddle and heading down to Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club in Eastbourne on day two. The third and final day of this challenge will see the men battle saddle sore and aching muscles on their way to Wimbledon, the home of British tennis, where they will be met by cheering supporters, a large bowl of strawberries and cream and no doubt a glass of Pimms or two! These men will be cycling between 8-9 hours a day in order to raise money for these two truly deserving causes. Nino Severino one of the founders of EBAT and Elena’s husband said, ‘Bally’s aim was to create a foundation that allowed children from all walks of life to play tennis, EBAT provides kids with a fun, stable learning environment and gives them the opportunity to develop and grow within the sport. What Steve, Ben and Jamie are doing to raise money for us and Marie Curie Cancer Care is fantastic, with a new roof at the Ipswich academy we will be able to run programmes all year round and reach out to more children wanting to play tennis.’ The riders will be keeping you up-to-date with their training, progress and preparations for the challenge through the EBAT YouTube channel and also via Twitter.
